Memories of Pat from his Fellow Senior Softballers
“I joined the league in January, 2007. Pat was one of the first people I met and for the next 8 months we played together on Carlsbad Inn. In that time and since, I knew Pat as the consummate gentleman. I'll miss him.” Bruce Meyer

“I played ball with Pat on Carlsbad Inn when I first joined the league. Pat would always greet you with a smile and a handshake. Then eventually it would lead up to a kiss on the cheek. What a gentleman he was. During his ups and downs, I never heard him complain about anything. A lesson we could all learn.
I’ll miss seeing him at the fields but know he will always be looking down upon all of us. Peace.” Lil Keehan

“Pat Salvaggione was one of the truly great gentlemen in North County Senior Softball. A class act, he always greeted everyone by name with a warm smile and firm handshake. Since he played first base and I bat left-handed, I will forever remember looking down the line while in the batter's box and see him smile and point towards second or third!
For his family and friends back East, Pat was a great friend and softballer who epitomized the highest standards of sportsmanship that we all aspire to. He will be missed in Southern California. God Bless.” Terry Sheffield

“Passing of a Gentle Man
I felt like a met THE NICEST MAN IN THE WORLD when I met Pat. I loved when he played first base. I would hope for a single so I could stop and hug Pat. He would tell me about when he was a doorman at Bergdorf Goodman, a hugely expensive department store in NYC. The wife of the owner of the NY Yankees would come to the store frequently. Pat , being the loveable sort that he was, the lady would give her box seats to Pat when she was out of town!!. He knew Joe Torre and many of the players. What stories, what a man… a gentle man.” Jonnie Johnson

“I played with Pat on the Wings team for only 6 months and to me he was always the most gracious gentleman. He always showed up for every game with a smile even when he wasn't feeling good or just come and sit with us in the dugout. He loved the game and was a very good first baseman for his age. He will be missed. I will always remember him.” Charlene Madvig

“Pat Salvaggione was the nicest, finest person I have ever met. A gentleman, a prince among men. Always a smile. Always “How’s Hank doing”? Just a great guy. How he played every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nine innings while undergoing therapy was truly amazing to me. I will miss his smile and company on the bench.” Hank Plotkin

“I first met Pat when I became a manager and he joined my team. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to keep him on my team ever since. He was the epitome of everything this league should strive for. He was always a gentleman, quick with a smile, a hearty handshake or a slap on the back. His positive attitude even when struggling with medical issues was inspiring. Every game was a better game just having him there. His love for the game and his affection for his teammates was very clear. His presence will be greatly missed.” Brett Begell

“In my brief time with the North County Senior League I have come to appreciate getting to know many of my colleagues. None was nicer and most gentlemanly than Pat. He always had a smile for us and was a good listener and friend when we were in need. Since I had lost my 41/2 year old grandson to brain cancer and had gone through nearly 19 months of hell in 3 children's cancer hospitals, it was always Pat who would first come up to me to inquire as to the health of my grandson, Evan. Even though he couldn't run due to his knee replacements he continued to play senior softball as best as he could. He was always to be admired.” Harold Zaroff

“I played with Pat for several years. He not only was a friend and a gentleman, but he was a tremendous family man. We spent a lot of time talking about "our kids and grandkids". He was so proud of his family! One cannot look back over the last year and have anything but admiration for Pat and his continuing love of life. It was always, "Hi Roger, how are you doing", with a great big smile. He will be missed by the entire league.” Roger Stafford
